199 log
Log of 1997 updates at Phil Johnson's Web site.

===============

FOR THE WEEKS ENDING 26 December 1998:

Another note from Phil:
Unfortunately, I did not make my goal of adding more sermons before the end of the year. Look for enough new sermons in 1999 to make up for the year-end draught in 1998. Have a happy New Year!

FOR THE WEEKS ENDING 3 October 1998:

A note from Phil:
I'm very sorry to let so many weeks go by without adding any new sermons—especially when so many faithful volunteers have supplied me with transcripts to post. But I'm swamped with work in my real-world job at the moment, and I'm scheduled to go to England and Germany in November. After that, I intend to post as many sermons as possible. My goal is to get at least 50 more on line before the end of the year. Thanks for your patience.

P.S. Here's some stuff to help tide you over:

Added a copy of Spurgeon's most famous lecture series

Added an article on Charles Finney: "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: How Charles Finney's Theology Ravaged the Evangelical Movement."

Also added one sermon: "The Statute of David for the Sharing of the Spoil"

FOR THE 10 WEEKS ENDING 15 August 1998:

Phil's Home!
Phil Johnson has returned from his summer ministries in Asia, bringing (as promised) numerous sermons he proofread and formatted while away. A heartfelt thanks to those who supplied these transcripts. Thanks to all for your patience while waiting for us to post these materials. This is the largest mass of material posted at one time since the Spurgeon Archive was begun in 1995, and we hope it makes up (in some small measure) for the long wait. There is much more still to come, Lord willing.

Fifty-two sermons added to The Spurgeon Archive:

FOR MAY-JULY 1998:

Important Notice: For much of the sumer of 1998, Phil Johnson will be ministering in Indonesia and India. It will be impossible to contact him via e-mail about the Web site. He hopes to return to the Web site by early Fall 1998, at which time he will resume posting material and replying to important e-mail messages. In the meantime, please keep him in your prayers.
    Special thanks to those who have been submitting sermons for The Spurgeon Archive. Phil is taking a number of sermons to Asia with him, along with a laptop computer. He hopes to return with much material proofread, formatted, and ready to be posted. Thanks for your patience.

FOR THE TWO WEEKS ENDING 9 May 1998:

These two weeks have been busy, including a quick journey to Florida. But we have added nine sermons to The Spurgeon Archive:

FOR THE WEEK ENDING 25 April 1998:

Added six sermons to The Spurgeon Archive:

FOR THE WEEK ENDING 18 April 1998:

FOR THE 2.5 MONTHS ENDING 11 April 1998:

Phil has returned and hopes to make up for the extended down-time in the months to come. This week we are adding 8 sermons:

As many will already have noticed, during the weeks he was away, Phil also redesigned The Hall of Church History and Phil's Bookmarks. The bookmarks are now divided into several small pages that load faster. However, if you preferred the one-page format, you can still download all Phil's Bookmarks on one very long page at: http://www.romans45.org/bookmark/fulllist.htm

===============

FOR THE 4 WEEKS ENDING 31 January 1998:

Phil is busy editing a book and has been unable to add pages. However, Tom Garner graciously formatted and submitted Sermon 47, Christ's Prayer for His People

===============

FOR THE WEEK ENDING 3 January 1998:

  • Added four new pages of instructions for friends willing to help with the work of maintaining The Spurgeon Archive (see note below):

  • Added two new entries on the "Articles by Phil Johnson" page:
    1. Supralapsarianism & Infralapsarianism (posted on Larry Wing's Web site.)
    2. A Primer on Hyper-Calvinism
  • Also continued updating and redesign of bookmarks, and revamped the graphics on several other pages.

    NOTE TO ALL: We are very sorry that we have not been able to keep up with the influx of new sermons and other material for The Spurgeon Archive. Many people have submitted sermons and waited many weeks before seeing them posted. (Norma Buhr in particular has shown extreme patience and remarkable faithfulness in spite of little encouragement.)
        But Phil Johnson's responsibilities in his real-world job do not allow more than 5-10 hours per week on the Web site, and there are now so many pages that simple Web maintenance takes all the spare time Phil has. Therefore, we are soliciting knowledgable friends to help in the formatting and proofreading of new sermons and other material. See the new pages listed above, or visit the updated Friends of The Spurgeon Archive page for details on how you can help.
